The global fashion, sport, and textile industry faces significant challenges related to overproduction/overconsumption, waste management, environmental impact, and social conditions in production. Complex value chains and interconnections make it challenging to identify promising solutions and measures.
The Norwegian cluster for the fashion and textile industry, NF&TA, is working towards industry transformation through concrete solutions and broader societal change. For this purpose, they require better methods to analyze potential ripple effects of proposed solutions.
We invite students to this interdisciplinary workshop to develop a tool that can be used to evaluate proposed measures for improving the fashion and textile industry.
To gain a deeper understanding of the issue, we have invited a range of experts on the subject, both from the university and industry stakeholders.
As a participant in the workshop, you will work on the problem in a group, supported by an interdisciplinary facilitator. Upon completion of the workshop, you will receive a diploma. It will also be possible to continue developing projects through INTED's program for student driven activities.
Learning objectives
- Understand the key elements of a complex global value chain, using fashion and textiles as an example
- Have a basic understanding of a circular industry model and the challenges associated with transitioning from a linear to a circular economy
- Use systems thinking to understand and formulate the problem from an interdisciplinary perspective
- Conduct stakeholder analysis and apply design thinking to identify those affected by the problem and potential solutions
- Learn methods to assess the actual effectiveness of proposed solutions in the short, medium, and long term
- Acquire tools for collaborating effectively in interdisciplinary groups
- Understand that clothing is more than just clothing and understand why change is often challening :-)
