On this day trip, students will get the chance to experience a piece of Norway beyond Oslo. Lillehammer is famed for its cultural significance and beautiful scenery, with an array of museums and hiking trails accessible right from the city.
*Please note that this excursion is only available to students who have selected to stay at ISS housing at R?nningen folkeh?gskole.
Itinerary
- 9:00 -- Students can begin to load the buses from R?nningen folkeh?gskole with their packed lunches. Buses depart at 9:30.
- 12:00 -- For the first activity of the day, students have the choice of either:
Maihaugen: a three-for-one museum experience where students can go freely between Norway's largest open-air folk museum, the Post Museum, and the Olympic Museum
- Balbergkampen: a moderate hike to the top of Lillehammer's nearest mountain, including a scenic viewpoint over the city and Lake Mj?sa (spaces are limited!)
- 3:00 -- Activity 2: During the latter half of the day, students will have the choice between a selection of additional activities:
Lillehammer Art Museum: a guided tour through the current exhibitions of Lillehammer's reputable art museum (spaces are limited!)
- Bjerkeb?k: a guided tour through the home of author Sigrid Undset (spaces are limited!)
- Talk by Steinar Bryn: a talk on Lillehammer and its history in global peacemaking, held by Steinar Bryn, a researcher in peace studies and friend of the ISS
Free Time: students are also welcome to use this time to explore the city freely
- some suggested locations: G?gata in downtown Lillehammer, Mesna river, Mj?sa shorefront
- 5:00 -- A two-course, private group dinner at the 1847 Brenneriet restaurant
- *Any beverages (other than provided tap water) must be purchased at the student's expense.
- 7:00 -- Load buses and begin the trip back to R?nningen
