Academic requirements for International Summer School

The requirements listed below must be met prior to the start of the summer courses. Admission to ISS requires that you meet the general academic requirements for higher education in Norway and the English language proficiency requirements.

Academic requirements for

Bachelor's courses

1. English proficiency requirements:
Applicants who are not native speakers of English must document their proficiency in English.
2. Academic requirements:

Due to differences in world educational systems, applicants must submit specific documents to show they are eligible for admission. The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (HK-dir) provides the GSU-list which specifies the education (Higher Education Entrance Qualification) you must have to qualify for admission to universities and university colleges in Norway.

Which documents you submit depends on your country's educational system.

Please note:

The French Baccalaureate, the European Baccalaureate and International Baccalaureate also satisfy the requirements for admission to Norwegian universities.

Education modelled on the British system of GCE Advanced Level examinations, or equivalent, will also be recognized when these examinations are recognized in Great Britain as equivalent to British GCE Advanced Level exams.

Refugee status:

At the moment the requirements for applicants with refugee status are the same as for all other applicants - full documentation is required for all applicants. No applicants will be admitted before they have submitted all required academic documents.

Master's courses

1. English proficiency requirements:
Applicants who are not native speakers of English must document their proficiency in English.

Refugee status:

At the moment the requirements for applicants with refugee status are the same as for all other applicants - full documentation is required for all applicants. No applicants will be admitted before they have submitted all required academic documents.

Norwegian language courses

1. English proficiency requirements:
Applicants who are not native speakers of English must document their proficiency in English. Norwegian language courses are Bachelor-level courses, and therefore all applicants must meet the same basic entrance requirements as all other applicants, including English proficiency requirements.
2. Norwegian proficiency requirements:

All applicants to Norwegian language levels II, III and IV are asked to submit one of the following documents:

  • Transcripts of Norwegian language courses and/or test scores from university studies
  • Test scores for Norskpr?ven or Test i norsk h?yere niv? (Bergenstest)
