Programme structure
The study programme consists of 60 ECTS credits of theoretical curriculum and a master's thesis of 60 ECTS. Please see the programme for general structure and requirements.
Mandatory courses
- FYS4600 – Space Physics and Technology. If you have passed FYS3600 – Space Physics and Technology, you are exempted from this requirement.
- In addition you are recquired to have at least one of the following courses independentet of the programme you choose.

- FYS4220 – Real Time and Embedded Data Systems
- FYS4231 – Sensors and Measurement Technology
- FYS4620 – An Introduction to Plasma Physics
- FYS4630 – Transport of radiation in the atmosphere (discontinued)
- FYS4640 – Space Weather and Navigation Satellite Systems
If you choose a master's degree with us, it would be relevant to take a course at the University Centre in Svalbard by recommendation of the advisor.
Other relevant courses
The rest of the courses in the theoretical curriculum are elective courses that you choose in concert with your advisor within the guidelines that govern the theoretical curriculum.
Study abroad
You can take parts of Your master abroad. We recommend study abroad in Your 2nd or 3rd semester. See more information regarding study abroad on the general programme webpage.
