The University of Groningen (Netherlands) is handling the application process, and will make decisions of admission on behalf of the programme.

In order to assure the quality of the programme the maximum number of participants per round is thirty. There are no set application deadlines as a rolling application system is used. This means that once the programme is full, applications are closed for that round. For this reason it is recommend that you apply as soon as possible.

Admission requirements

Summary of admission criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to enter the North Sea Energy Law Programme:

  • LL.M, or
  • LL.B with a general point average of C or higher (equals 7/10/Netherlands or 2:1/UK), or
  • Any other university master,

and:

  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience

A specialization within energy and/or petroleum related subjects will be seen as an advantage.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language, you will need to satisfy the Universities' English language requirements. These can be satisfied by having studied your first degree in the medium of English, or else by possession of any one of the following qualifications:

  • IELTS academic: 6.5 overall (at least 6.0 on each section)
  • TOEFL online: 92 (at least 21 on each section)
  • TOEFL computer based: 237 (at least 21 on each section, TWE at least 4.5)
  • TOEFL: 580 (at least 55 on each section, TWE at least 4.5)
  • Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
  • Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)

Regarding the TOEFL test: the NSELP institutional code is 8450. Please notify NSELP of your incoming result. If you hold another qualification, you should contact the University of Groningen, and the Admission Board will decide on whether this is acceptable.

Documentation

All applicants have to provide:

  • Diplomas and grade transcripts
  • Documentation of a minimum of two years of relevant work experience
  • A letter from your employer, showing his support of your application and proof of current relevant job
  • English test result scores
  • Completed application form

Ranking of applicants

The maximum number of participants per round is thirty. Due to the rolling application system, there is no ranking of applicants. All qualified applicants will be admitted untill the maximum number of students is met. This means that once the programme is full, applications for that round is closed.
