Throughout their time at the University of Oslo, many students make discoveries with potential for being converted into a commercially viable product or service, or they become interested in innovation processes genereally.
Taking an idea in academia through all the necessary stages to industry or society is not trivial. Knowledge on how to do so is typically not emphasized in the regular educational programs, whose primary goals are to provide the student with excellent disciplinary skills.
This certificate is aimed at students with high work capacity and a strong personal motivation to learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur within life sciences.
You should choose this certificate if you
- see yourself as a potential future entrepreneur or as a member of a small team in a start-up company
- are interested in and concerned about how the results produced in academia can be used for the common good in the society
- consider yourself to be a curious student with strong scientific ambitions
- are confident you can take the extra workload the certificate will add on top of your regular studies in a master’s programme (2 years), integrated master’s programme (5 years) or programme of professional studies (5-6 years)
- are eager to build interdisciplinary competencies not attainable through regular courses at the university
- have a clear desire to add merits to your CV that will make you stand out when applying for future jobs
When?
The certificate runs in parallel with the second and third semester of your main two-year master’s programme, or typically in the 7th and 8th or 8th and 9th semester of your professional programme in e.g. Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy.
Who?
Students from all faculties are encouraged to apply. Indeed, an important learning outcome in this certificate is to work constructively in small groups with people from different disciplinary backgrounds.
Partners
The certificate is hosted by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MN) with the Faculty of Medicine (MED) as partner. The individual courses will be taught at the Department of Pharmacy, Department of Biosciences and the Institute of Basic Medical Science.
The idea for the certificate came from UiO:Life Science, a strategic initiative at the University of Oslo, who has led the development and provided funding for planning and operational expenses.
