The award will be given annually to a student who has written and defended an exceptional thesis with highest scientific quality and potential for contribution into improving international community health.
Objective of the award
Given that the acquisition of research skills is among the main learning outcome in the master programme in international community health, this awards therefore aim to recognize high quality scholarly work and stimulate scientific enthusiasm among graduates of the programme. The award is expected to encourage graduates to produce outstanding research work of exemplary standard that will inform practice and policy.
The award
An outstanding thesis award will be given annually to the best-defended thesis from graduates of the programme. The award will comprise of a certificate of recognition and monetary award amounting to NOK 3000.
Eligibility
A graduate is eligible for nomination if she/he;
- Completed and defended his/her master thesis in International Community Health master programme
- Scored grade A or B.
- The thesis must present an original work and should address a topic of relevance in international community health.
- The thesis must have been defended during the period 1st August previous year to 30th June, the year of award.
Nomination Process
A graduate should be nominated by his/her thesis supervisor/advisor by submitting the following documentations.
- An abstract from the thesis not exceeding 500 words
- A copy of the thesis
- A letter of recommendation from the supervisor/advisor stating:
- The originality of the work
- The scientific merit of the thesis in terms of quality of methodology and its contribution into the body of knowledge
- The relevance of the work in the field of international community health
The nomination must be received by the programme leadership by 1st July of the year of award
The evaluation and selection process
A multidisciplinary award committee (Master thesis award selection committee) will evaluate all nominations based on the criteria listed hereunder.
- Originality of the thesis in its area of study
- Suitability of the methodology in addressing the research question
- Scope and relevance (theoretical or practical relevance) of the thesis in improving international community health
- Logical, clarity and coherence/quality of the presentation
