This Master’s Degree Programme is a two year programme consisting of a total of 120 ECTS credits.

The master's degree consists of:
- 40 credits of compulsory courses
- 20 credits elective courses
- 60 credits master's thesis or 30 credits project term and 30 credits master's thesis

Students can do 10 credits initial work on the Master's thesis or one of the elective courses:
- IBS4102 – Henrik Ibsen's oeuvre in the perspective of its reception history (10 credits)

- IBS4220 – Ibsen og det moderne drama (10 credits) (The course is taught in Norwegian)

Work on the Master?s thesis IBS4390 – Master's Thesis in Ibsen Studies is based on IBS4000 – Advanced Academic Writing for Ibsen Studies , where the students are to define the problematic issues and produce a preliminary project description for their thesis.
In the second semester the students start working on their thesis in connection with the compulsory course IBS4001 – Theoretical, Methodological, and Interdisciplinary Approaches to Ibsen Studies. The thesis is to be completed in the third and fourth semesters.
The length of the master's thesis is between 80-100 pages (à 2300 keystrokes per page). Individual supervision is provided throughout the process.
The master's thesis is to be written in English or Norwegian. The amount of work required is the equivalent of 60 credits.
