How did you get your current job?
A former colleague made me aware that NHO needed a project manager for their project "Jenter og teknologi" (Girls and Technology). I applied and was hired part time while doing my master’s thesis, and then went on to a full-time job after completing my studies.
Why do you think they chose you for the job?
I think it was a combination of my previous part-time and summer jobs, participation in student organisations and my educational qualifications. Demonstrating that I was able to juggle a number of tasks concurrently was probably an advantage. I think finishing your studies in the prescribed time is just as important as getting perfect grades.
What are your main duties?
For two years I have managed the "Jenter og teknologi" project, as well as working with NHO’s education and skills policies in general. This year I am working full-time with NHO’s annual conference for 2020, with responsibility for conference content.
What are you working on just now?
Right now, I am working on confirming the theme of the annual conference and booking keynote speakers. This involves many meetings with various stakeholders within and outside the organization, holding workshops, writing, reading reports, and making and holding presentations.
How do you apply your qualifications from the Department of Sociology and Human Geography in your work?
Processing information critically and rapidly, and producing written content fast is essential to my work, and this certainly comes from my years at Blindern.
What is your top tip for students who want to be attractive in the job market?
Involve yourself in something outside of your actual studies, whether it is student organizations, politics, sports or something else. It will make your time as a student more fun and interesting, and employers value it.
