Programme structure

The Master's program in Education is a two-year full time study consisting of 120 ECTS.

The Master’s programme in Education is an interactive full-time programme that consists of two specialisations. The programme requires consistent participation of all students in all educational activities, including group work and in-class activities. Each of the two programme specialisations is conducted through a set plan over four semesters where all courses are mandatory. The first semester begins with a joint introductory course that provides you with a foundational basis for your selected specialisation. Before introducing you to your specific specialisation, this course will introduce you to Norwegian education in its Nordic context thereby providing an important frame of reference for the courses that make up the two programme specialisations in the first, second and third semesters.

Research methods are introduced during the first semester and further developed in the second and third semesters. Through the three methods courses, you will gain the skills needed to develop a research proposal, conduct fieldwork, collect and analyse data, and complete a research-based master thesis in your selected programme specialisation. The students in the two specialisations will have the first two methods courses together, while the third one will be offered within their specialisation.

Detailed information about each specialisation is available in the programme descriptions:

Both specialisations have the following structure (all courses are mandatory):

  • 45 ECTS master's thesis
  • 30 ECTS specialisation
  • 25 ECTS methods
  • 20 ECTS introduction
