In a report from McKinsey Global Institute they state:
"There will be a shortage of talent necessary for organizations to take advantage of big data. By 2018, the United States alone could face a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with deep analytical skills as well as 1.5 million managers and analysts with the know-how to use the analysis of big data to make effective decisions."
This shortage is also appearant in other countries, such as Norway, where jobs for Data Scientist area are announced in an increasing rate. A small survey one day in June 2017 showed that diverse companies as Tine, Statnet, Danske Bank, Kongsberg Digital, Telenor Movile, IBM, CapGemini, Computas AS, Inmeta, Webstep, Affecto all search for Data Scientists.
There are also increasing oppertunities for PhD positions within Data Science. Through our two senters for innovation, BigInsight and Sirius, several PhD positions will be available, working on real problems from the industry, but at the same time giving oppertunities for theoretical and methodological research.
