Systems toxicology in Atlantic cod (dCod)

Atlantic cod has become an important model species for toxicological research. We have been working on how toxic substances affect cod for more than two decades and we are currently involved in a large national research project (dCod) that aims to increase our understanding of how toxicants affect cod, i.e. systems toxicology. dCod includes UiO, UiB, NMBU and NTNU as well as international partners.

We can offer master projects that will investigate responses in cod following exposure to emerging chemicals of concern, both singly and in combination. In addition to laboratory exposures, there will be a field part of the project to clarify whether responses found in the lab are also present in nature. The projects will entail practical work with exposures at NIVAs research station at Solbergstrand, sampling and analyses of sublethal responses, e.g. neurotoxicity, genotoxicity, immunotoxicity and developmental toxicity.

 

The master projects will be supervised by Ketil Hylland, Zhanna Tairova and members of the dCod consortium.
