Part-time work and work permit

Be aware that it can be difficult to obtain a part-time job in order to supplement your budget. There are a limited amount of jobs available for students without knowledge of Norwegian.

EU/EEA citizens

Non-EU/EEA citizens

  • You can work up to?20 hours pr week?during your first year of study.
  • You can work full-time during the holidays.
  • The part-time work permit has the same duration as the study permit.
  • Part-time work permit as a student only allows you to be an employee.?You are therefore not allowed to set up your own business (sole proprietorship - enkeltmannsforetak) while you are?on a student permit.

Renewal of part-time work permit

  • When?renewing the study permit, the part-time work permit is?not?automatically renewed.
  • You must document satisfactory progress in your studies in order to continue to work part-time.

Tax deduction card

If you get a part-time job, you will need to apply for a tax deduction card with the Tax Administration.
