Why and how much to deposit
In order to be granted a residence permit to Norway as a non EU/EEA citizen, the UDI requires that you show documentation that you have enough money to live on while studying in Norway.
This comes in addition to the tuition fees full degree students must pay. Please refer to our web page for further information about tuition fees.
The required amount varies depending on how long and when you are staying. For the academic year 2025/2026 the amount is:
- Two semesters or more: NOK 166 859
- Autumn 2025: NOK 75 845
- Spring 2026: NOK 91 014
*For master's degree students that applied by 15 November 2024, the UDI will accept the amount for the previous academic year 2024/2025 of NOK 151 690.
Deadline for transfer of funds to the SiO deposit account
- 15 June for the autumn semester
- 1 November for the spring semester
Important: It is possible to make a transfer of funds to the deposit account after the deadline, but please note that UDI require all documents to be handed in by 1 July/1 December in order for the application of residence permit to be processed in time for the semester start.
Tuition fees for full degree students
Please note that full degree students admitted to studies, will receive a separate invoice for the tuition fees. The deadline to pay the tuition fees is two weeks after you receive the invoice. You cannot pay the invoice through the UDI deposit account.
