This information only applies to:

  • International students who applied for Master's degree programmes by 15 November.
  • EU/EEA students (not including the Nordic countries) who applied for Master's degree programmes by 1 March.

Housing through SiO

Unfortunately, due to limited number of available student housing, we cannot confirm that all international students will be guaranteed housing through SiO.

As an international master student you will be on UiOs prioritised housing list, given that you have applied for SiO housing within the deadline and followed our guidelines on how to apply for housing. However, we cannot guarantee that all students will be offered housing through SiO.

Please note that if you have accepted a housing offer and choose not to come, you must notify SiO housing and cancel your housing contract. Failure to do so may result in a fee. Please contact SiO housing if you have any further questions.

Furnished or unfurnished room?

Master's degree students can apply for furnished or unfurnished single room. Please note that the type of room is subject to availability.
You are not guaranteed a furnished room.

  • All furnished rooms include a bed, closet, desk, chair, bookshelf, and a table.

  • All unfurnished single rooms are unequipped. You will have to obtain essentials such as a bed, desk, chair etc. on your own.

If you would prefer a different room or student village, you can apply for internal moving after you have moved in. You find more information about internal moving on SiOs website.

Application deadline

  • 1 June for students starting their studies in the autumn semester.
  • 1 November for students starting their studies in the spring semester.

How to apply for housing

Read the guide carefully and apply for housing accordingly.

Family and couple apartments

  • You are not prioritised a family or couple apartments.
  • Due to very limited availability you can not be expected to be provided with this housing option from the beginning of your stay.
  • This means that you can expect to be on a waiting list for very long time, for family and couple apartments.
  • We recommend you to check out possibilities to rent a flat/room on the private market. You will find available flats to rent at finn.no or hybel.no.

Location

  • SiO Housing has 22 different housing villages spread around Oslo and nearby areas. You can apply for any housing village that offers single rooms.
  • Most international students live at Sogn, Ullev?l or Kringsj?. These are the largest student villages and are most likely to have available rooms.
  • Please note that ?r?sen student housing is located 1 hour away from Oslo with public transport.

Read more information about the different housing villages on SiO's web page.

Costs

  • The price of rent will vary depending on location, room size and whether you have shared kitchen/bathroom facilities or not.
  • Most students pay somewhere between NOK 4000 and 8000 NOK in rent on a monthly basis.

Please refer to SiO's web page for further information about the price.

Renting a room in the private marked

In Norway, most flats or rooms that are available for rent are published at the website Finn.no, under "Bolig til leie"

The housing priority only applies:

  • If you apply within the deadlines.
  • If your housing contract begins 1 August / 1 January.
  • You are only prioritised housing once, the first time you apply.

There are limited number of available student housing. If you apply for housing after the deadline and/or with another arrival date than 1 January / 1 August, you will not be prioritised SiO housing.
