Requirements and deadlines
- You must be a full degree student at?UiO when you apply.
- The traineeship must be approved as part of your degree, unless you are doing a?traineeship after completing the degree.*
- The grant application deadline is 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester.
- The traineeship must be approved and registered by your faculty at least one week before the grant application deadline.
- You must have completed at least 60 ECTS credits before the traineeship starts.
- The traineeship period must be a minimum of two months (60 days).
- A traineeship Learning Agreement must be completed and signed by all parties.
*A traineeship after the degree must be agreed in the last semester of the degree, and completed in the semester following your graduation.?
Students can receive?Erasmus+ support for a maximum of 12 months per study cycle?(BA/MA/PhD). If you have completed a full year of exchange studies and/or traineeship in the same study cycle, you cannot apply for another Erasmus+ exchange. This is also the case if the previous exchange was from?another institution than UiO.?
Language assessment
You will be invited to complete a free online language assessment before?the exchange period, through the system EU Academy.?The test will determine your proficiency?level in the language you will use during your traineeship, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR).?You can take a new test after the exchange period, allowing you?to measure the progress made during your?stay abroad.
Sign the Grant Agreement
Before you can receive the grant, you have to sign and submit an Erasmus+ Grant Agreement.
The UiO Erasmus+ team will email you the grant agreement once we have been notified that your traineeship has been approved.?
Insurance
You must have valid health insurance through the European Health Insurance Card or private insurance. You must also have travel insurance or other equivalent insurance with accident and liability insurance cover. See also our Safety Abroad information.
Learning Agreement for Traineeships
You must contact your local study programme coordinator to prepare a Learning Agreement that describes the?content and expected outcome of your?traineeship.?The Learning Agreement must be signed by you, the relevant coordinator at UiO, and your host institution.?
Equal opportunities - additional support
Erasmus+ aims to offer equal opportunities for all. This means that some students may receive additional funding to facilitate their exchange. The categories in 2025/2026 are:
| a) | ?Students with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments |
| b) | Students with refugee status |
| c) | ?Students with children, or students who are the primary caregiver of younger siblings, elderly family members and/or family members with serious mental and/or physical illness or addiction |
| d) | Students who belong to the indigenous people of Norway, or one of the national minority groups (Forest Finns, Jews, Kven/Norwegian Finns, Roma, and Romani/Taters) |

Grant payment and rates
The Erasmus grant is meant to cover some of the costs related to your traineeship abroad, rather than finance the traineeship period in full. The University of Oslo is allocated funds per academic year, and conditions and grant rates may change from one year to another.?
How much can I receive?
For the academic year 2025-2026:
- € 680 per month* for traineeships in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Sweden
- € 620 per month* for all other programme countries
*For 2025/2026, a grant of up to 3 months per semester will be awarded. This is the maximum amount we can allocate per applicant, based on the number of applicants and this year's available grant funds.
Grant payment and confirmation from host institution
The grant is paid through UiO's salary system. The amount will be marked as salary, and UiO will automatically collect your electronic tax card.?UiO will transfer the grant in NOK to your Norwegian bank account.? You are responsible for covering?transaction costs, for example if you use a foreign bank account.
The host organisation?must sign a confirmation as soon as possible after your arrival in order to confirm the duration of the traineeship.

Withdrawal and grant repayment
- If the exchange is cancelled before two months (60 days) have passed, or if the exchange is completed but lasts less than two months, the entire grant must be repaid.
- If the exchange is cancelled after two months, you are entitled to keep the grant for the period you completed, but the portion of the grant corresponding to the period you did not complete must be repaid.
- If the exchange period was shorter than planned, you may be required to repay part of the grant.
- If planned credits are not achieved (this does not apply to failed exams), you must repay the entire grant unless otherwise has been agreed.
- If mandatory documentation is not submitted, you must repay the entire grant. This applies to the Learning Agreement, Confirmation of Erasmus+ Exchange Period, and the EU Survey.
In cases of termination due to illness, you may apply for exemption from repayment of all or part of the Erasmus grant. This must be documented with a medical certificate. Send an email to utveksling@uio.no to clarify the procedure.
Submit a report
You are required to submit a report upon your return. You will receive an email from EU Survey after the confirmed?end date of your traineeship.
