GDPR and exchange

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy in the European Union and the European Economic Area. It also addresses the transfer of personal data outside the EU and EEA areas.

Processing of personal data

In order for our students to go on exchange, UiO needs to transfer personal data about our students to our partner universities abroad. UiO will limit the transferred information to a minimum, however the categories of information our partner universities require will vary.

As a data controller, UiO has considered the legal basis for processing and transfer personal data to our partner institutions abroad.

Exchange agreements

UiO ensures that any cross-border transfer of personal data to third countries are done with the appropriate safeguards, securing that the level of protection of personal data guaranteed by GDPR is not undermined. UiO will only transfer personal data considered necessary for the exchange process.
