Step 1: Remove personal information
To ensure anonymity when submitting, you must remove personal information before saving the document as a PDF. There are several ways to do this.
Remove personal information in MS Word
Click the tab (1) File / Fil when you are in the document.
Click on (2) Check for Issues / Kontroller problemer.
Then choose (3) Inspect Document / Unders?k dokument.
A new window will appear called Document Inspector / Dokumentinspeksjon. Choose(4) Unders?k / Inspect at the bottom right.
The information in the box will be updated, and any alerts will be shown with an exclamation mark. Click on (5) Remove All in the box where problem(s) have been found.
Remove personal information if you use Windows
If you are using the Windows operating system, you can remove personal information in the document without having to open MS Word.
Go to the location where you saved the document, right click on the document and select (1) Properties / Egenskaper.
Choose the tab (2) Details / Detaljer at the top of the dialog box that appears, and then (3) Remove Properties and Personal Information / Fjern egenskaper og personlig informasjon nederst.
You then get a new window. Here, you select (4) Remove the following properties from this file, and then (5) Authors / Last saved by before you press (6) OK.

Word 2016 / 2019 for Mac
Open the Word document and select the following:
- Tools > Protect Document > Privacy > Remove Personal Information from this File when saving> OK.
Step 2: Save the document as a PDF
After removing personal information from your answer, you must save it as a PDF before submitting it.
Save as a PDF in MS WORD 2013 or 2016
As a student at UiO, you have access to Office 365 where MS Word 2016 is included.
Click the tab (1) File when you are in the document.
In the left column, select (2) Export and choose (3) Create PDF / XPS.
In the dialog box that pops up, locate where you want to save the document. Give the file a suitable name (4) and press (5) Publish.
Do not give the file you are going to deliver a name that can identify you. We recommend subject code and candidate number. Eg. EXPHIL03 Candidate99000.pdf.
Save as a PDF using other programs
See separate instructions on how to save the document as a PDF using other programs (in Norwegian).
Step 3: Submit your exam
File uploading usually happens automatically at the submission deadline (Automatic submission). For some exams, however, you must deliver the answer right away (Submit now).
Automatic submission
Find the exam under Upcoming tests.
If nothing is saved in your answer, you will see the message:
"You have not attempted any questions and your answers will not be sumitted".
- Click on the button Click here to get ready and Open test.
- Press Select file to upload and locate the file you are about to submit.
Once you have uploaded the file, you can see that the file has been uploaded and saved.
You can preview the uploaded file by pressing Download, you can also choose Remove or Replace.
If a file has not been uploaded when the deadline expires, nothing will be submitted to the examiner.
As you move on, you will see that you have answered the assignment and that your answer is automatically submitted when the test closes.
You can re-open the exam before the submission deadline by clicking on Open test.
After submission, under Upcoming tests, you will see the message:
"You have submitted. You can still edit your submission until the test closes"
When the submission deadline expires, the answer is submitted automatically.
You will be able to see the answer under Archive (provided that access is given to answers for the actual exam).
Submit now
- Find your exam under Upcoming tests.
- Select Click here to get ready and Open test.
- Press Select file to upload and locate the file you are about to submit.
- Go to the submission page and press Submit now.
Zip files
It is only possible to submit one file in each question. If you need to deliver more than one file, the files can be merged into a single zip file before uploading to Inspera. See how to submit zip files. To submit a zip file the assignment must accept this file type.
