Compulsory activities at The Faculty of Law

For many courses, The Faculty of Law requires participation in the form of compulsory activities. These must be approved before you can sit for the examination.

What is a compulsory activity?

For many courses there may be a requirement to complete a compulsory activity in order to sit for the final exam.

Compulsory activities may include (but not limited to):

  • Compulsory attendance requirements
  • Oral presentation
  • Submission of assignments, either individually or in groups.

Valid absence and postponements of assignments

Valid reasons for absence must be documented and include the following:

  • If you, or a person for whom you are the primary caretaker, are ill
  • Childbirth
  • Death of a close relative
  • Other substantial reasons outside of your own control

Other substantial reasons outside of your own control may include for instance military service, trials or political representation.

Nervousness, insomnia, traffic delays, private travel or similar, do not entitle you to valid absence or postponements.

Valid documentation

Valid documentation is a doctor's certificate, confirmation of birth / term or equivalent.

Medical certificates must have a signature and stamp from the doctor, or a digital signature, to be valid. The medical certificate must show the period and scope of the sick leave, and it must be clear from the certificate that you were ill at the time of the compulsory activity.

When do I need to apply?

If you need to apply for valid absence or postponement of an assignment the deadline to give notice is the before the time of the compulsory activity.
