Connecting via File Explorer
NB: Only works for office/desktop computers on the UiO-network
Navigating to the storage hotel directly in the File Explorer search field is the simplest way to find the exact name, or checking access of the storage hotel for the first connection. Open File Explorer, clicking "This PC" in the menu, and pasting the following in the search field at the top:
\\hypatia.uio.no
You will see all available storage hotels, however, you will only be able to enter the directories which you have been granted access for.
When you have found your storage hotel (\\hypatia.uio.no\ followed by its name), you can easily create a shortcut p? dragging the folder to your dashboard.
However, for long-term usage, we recommend mounting the storage hotel. See below!
Mounting the storage hotel
Open File Explorer, right-click "This PC", and choose "Map Network Drive".
The following dialogue will open:
Choose a drive letter if you'd like, but the default is fine (Z: in picture). The path to the storage is the same as for manual navigation to the top of the project.
Click Finish, and the storage should appear as a permanent disk beneath "My PC":
Note that this is also displays the quota and current usage of the storage hotel!
Remote connection via WinSCP
WinSCP is a program which allows remote connection against a domain (read: storage), and unlike the above methods this can be used without being wired to the UiO network.
The program is pre-installed on UiO-machines, including our virtual desktops, but for private use it can be downloaded for free from their website.
Older versions of the program will only open a dialogue, while the newest versions will greet you with a more comprehensive interface:
In short the leftmost panel will display your local storage, while the storage hotel will open up in the right panel for easy drag-and-drop copy between the two.
Start out by clicking "New Session" towards the upper left corner:
The protocol should be left at the default SFTP (default).
For host name, fill in login.uio.no, ant then enter your UiO username and password.
By itself this will be sufficient to log in to your UiO home directory (M:).
To navigate directly to the storage hotel, click "Advanced", navigate to "Directories" in the menu to the left, and enter the path to the storage hotel in the following format beneath "Remote directory":
/net/hypatia/uio/fs01/lh-hotel-name
Then click OK.
Now it may be useful to save the information to avoid having to enter it every time. To do so, simply click "Save" and choose a fitting name (You don't need to fill "Folder").
Note that you cannot edit a saved configuration, so make sure everything is entered beforehand.
When ready, close the dialogue by clicking "Login", and a the storage should be displayed in the rightmost panel!
