If you have not received this email, no action is required.
UiO asks that you delete any UiO data that has been uploaded, synchronized, or stored in unauthorized third-party applications by 1 November 2025.
The connection between the third-party service and your UiO Google account will be removed.
If you need to keep the data, it must be stored in an approved location in accordance with UiO’s data storage guidelines.
1. Identify which apps are connected to your account
Check the list of services mentioned in the email you received, or go to myaccount.google.com
→ Third-party access to your Google Account, and log in using your UiO Google account.
You will now see an overview of apps and services that have access to your UiO Google account.
Click on an app to see what data it has had access to (e.g., profile information, Google Drive, etc.).
2. Delete any information stored in the third-party app
Even though access will be removed p? UiO Admins, your data may already be stored with the third party.
You must therefore delete any UiO data that has been uploaded, synchronized, or stored in the third-party app.
The process for doing this varies from app to app.
We recommend the following general steps:
- Log in directly to the app or service using your UiO Google account.
- This option is often called “Sign in with Google”, “Continue with Google”, “Fortsett med Google”, or similar.
- Sometimes it appears under “More sign-in options” or “Enterprise login.”
- The log in might look like this:
- Use your UiO Google account credentials:
- Enter your UiO username (username@uio.no) and password.
- Go to Account settings or Privacy settings.
- Delete any documents, contacts, files, or other information that may originate from your UiO account.
- If you will no longer use the service, delete or deactivate the account in the app. The integration will in any case be automatically removed by UiO on 1 November.
3. If you wish to continue using the service for personal use
When a service or account is used for business purposes, you shoud use a separate profile for personal, private purposes.
Depending on the service, you may be able to change your login from your UiO Google account to a personal account. If the service does not support this, you will need to create a new account using your private email address.
This applies if you want to continue using the service for private purposes, but it was previously linked to your UiO Google account.
Because the process differs between apps and providers, the following is a general guideline:
- Log in to the app or service as described above.
- Go to Account or Profile settings (often called Account, Settings, Profile, Connections, or Linked accounts).
- Look for an option such as “Disconnect account”, “Remove account”, or “Disconnect Google account”.
- Disconnect your UiO Google account.
- Choose “Add new account” or “Connect new account”, and link your personal account (for example, your private Google account).
If it is not possible to change the connected account:
- Some services do not allow switching directly from a UiO Google account to a personal account.
- In such cases, delete the account and any data associated with your UiO Google account in the third-party app, and then create a new account using your personal email address if you wish to continue using the service for personal purposes.
4. If the service is approved but requires a different login method
Certain services are approved for use at UiO, but they are not intended to be accessed through “Sign in with Google.”
Access to these services should instead be made using the designated login method, such as UiO Weblogin or Feide.
Because the exact procedure may differ between apps and services, the following provides a general guideline for how to proceed:
-
Log in to the service as described above.
-
Navigate to Account or Profile settings – often labeled Account, Settings, Profile, Connections, or Linked accounts.
-
Look for an option such as “Disconnect account”, “Remove account”, or “Disconnect Google account.”
-
Disconnect your UiO Google account from the service.
-
Select “Add new account” or “Connect new account”, and log in using the correct authentication method (for example, UiO Weblogin or Feide).
If it is not possible to change the connected account:
Some services do not allow a direct change from a UiO Google account to the correct login method (UiO Weblogin or Feide). If this is the case, follow these steps:
-
Delete any UiO-related data that has been uploaded, synchronized, or stored in the service.
-
If the data must be retained, store it in an approved location in accordance with UiO’s data storage guidelines.
-
Delete the existing account in the third-party service that is linked to your UiO Google account.
-
Create a new account using the correct login method (for example, UiO Weblogin or Feide) if you wish to continue using the service.
5. Unsure whether all data has been deleted?
If you are unsure whether all UiO-related data uploaded, synchronized, or stored in a third-party app has been deleted:
- Contact the service provider’s privacy contact or Data Protection Officer (DPO).
- Send an email or use the provider’s official privacy request channel.
- You can find contact information in the service’s Privacy Policy.
- Look for sections titled Privacy, Data Protection, GDPR, or similar.
- Find contact details for the Privacy Officer, Data Protection Officer (DPO), or equivalent.
- Include:
- The name of the service
- The account email you used
- A request for confirmation that all UiO-related data has been deleted
Template for a data deletion request:
You can send the following message to the third-party app’s privacy contact:
"Subject: Request for Deletion of Data Associated with My UiO Account
I am writing to request the deletion of all data associated with my University of Oslo (UiO) account that may have been stored, uploaded, or synchronized in your service.
Details:
- Name of the service: [Service Name]
- Account email used: [Your UiO email address]
Please confirm in writing that all data linked to my UiO account has been permanently deleted from your systems."
