Go directly to Data import and export
Important Information
- Only project administrators, or those appointed by them, can export data.
- Any project member can import data.
- Always copy files out of the file-import folder before working on them, the file import will overwrite existing files if they are re-imported.
Encrypting files
If you use Windows as your TSD operating system, you can encrypt files before transferring, with 7-Zip.
Download 7-Zip here.?
How to encrypt with 7-Zip
- Start 7-Zip.
- Disconnect your computer from the internet - disable Wi-Fi and unplug the network cable(s).
- Attach the storage with your sensitive data.
- Add the desired files to your 7-Zip archive.
- Click Next.
- Click Encrypt Files. This automatically writes files back to the same directory where the raw data was. NB! Be sure to tick off?Do not erase original data.
- Store the encrypted files on your computer somewhere you are able to find them later.
- Remove all attached storage devices with sensitive data, and any sensitive files you stored on the computer before encryption.
- Connect to the internet, use TSD's data portal to import data to your TSD project area.
- Log in to your remote TSD workstation.
- Double-click your 7-Zip files.
- Type in your password and use the?Decompress?button.
- Your files are decrypted.
The same procedure can be used to encrypt data using 7zip prior to exporting the files using TSD's data portal.
See also the illustrated instructions in Norwegian.?
File naming conventions
Characters can be any number, letter, hyphen or underscore. The first character can not be a punctuation mark.
Importing files
You can import files to your TSD project area using the Import files
app on TSD's data portal site.
The imported files are stored inside the folder?file-import in the project area's durable folder. Normally the files are stored directly in a folder named after the group which the files?were imported with, for instance?...durable/file-import/p11-member-group..
Record audio and video
Video and audio from devices like web cameras and microphones can be captured and recorded live while being securely saved in the TSD project area, with media capture app on TSD's data portal. There's also help on using the application.
Import links for users without a TSD account
The project administrator of a TSD project can give import grants to e.g. external partners who do not have a TSD user account in the relevant project.?
Go to TSD's Self Service portal, and click Import links under Project Administration.

Log in with TSD, and click New import link.

Choose which group can access the imported files in TSD, an end date for the import-link and a description. You can also choose the maximum amount of times the link can be used (leave blank for infinite), start date, and what sub-directory the files should be saved in.

You can find the secret under the import links Details. This has to be shared with the people who are going to use the link.

Importing register data from SSB
Once you have established contact with a representative from SSB for the delivery of register?data to your TSD project?you can create an import grant?as explained above, and share the link with SSB.
Once you have logged in to the Self Service portal, you can name the link?and set the receiving group to you personal user group (pXX-username-group). The uploaded data will then be accessible only to yourself.

Once you are satisfied with the link settings, you can display it, copy it, and share it with SSB.

Exporting data
NB! To export files from TSD you must either have been granted the necessary permissions by a project administrator, or have received a so-called export link. In the former case only members of the file export group (pXX-export-group) may export files out of the project. For export links, see import links — both kinds are managed in a similar manner.
To export files from TSD, place them in the file-export folder located directly in the project's durable directory.
To download the files (outside of TSD
), use the Export files
app on the TSD's data portal, e.g.:
- Go to the TSD data portal and choose Export files.
- Log in with your TSD account credentials that correspond to the project you wish to download files from.
- You can download the files by choosing the filename link in the list (normally shown in blue).
Requirements for using the data portal
A recent release of your preferred web browser?is?required for the?apps to function properly. You may have to enable cookies.
For the media capture application, requirements are published in more detail.
Importing and exporting data via command line in our API
Use our?TSD API client?to import or export data using the command line (the Linux terminal). The client may be installed from https://pypi.org/project/tsd-api-client.
The client relies on our file API which is available to all projects by default. There are no limits on file sizes, and uploads and downloads are resumable by default. The program also supports incremental directory synchronisation.
If you have administration rights (aka superuser privileges
) on your computer you might use the command?line pip3 install tsd-api-client --upgrade. If you don't have such rights, use?pip3 install tsd-api-client --user --upgrade..
Data from restricted sites and networks — fx03
| Site | Host and port(s) |
|---|---|
| AMG/NSC Ullev?l (OUS) | ull-gen-c2960g, ports 19 and 20 |
| Radium (OUS) | radium-c2960g, ports 1-4 |
| NSC (UiO) | bioe-9-sw, port 12 |
Setup steps
- Find the MAC address of the server(s) you wish to connect and send these MAC addresses to tsd-drift@usit.uio.no.
- After getting the OK from TSD, install the
tsd-api-client?as described above.
SSH fingerprint
fx03?traffic is encrypted in transit between TSD and the other network.- The ECDSA key fingerprint of the
fx03host isae:bc:70:e2:1c:d2:80:ee:e4:3b:5e:2a:51:1d:60:6f. - If you encounter a different fingerprint, this may be a security incident — please refrain from any data transfers and contact tsd-drift@usit.uio.no for resolution.
