I can't log in to NVivo?
Logging in to NVivo is only required for services UiO does not have access to. Unless you have purchased personal access to those services, you do not need to log in.
Can I share an NVivo project with someone else and collaborate on coding?
Yes, but you must work on the same file and only one person can work on the project/file at a time. The file must not be stored in a cloud service while it is being worked on, but you can share it via email/OneDrive as long as you save the file locally on your computer while working on it and upload it again when you are finished. Read more about how here:
Where do I find the license key?
The license key is available on the page where you downloaded the software. The license key will only work for the version UiO has a license for, so make sure you are using the correct version of NVivo.
Program kiosk/Omnissa: "This page on view.uio.no was not found"
If you receive this error message when opening Omnissa for the first time, try closing the browser and reopening it. Sometimes it's a server error at UiO; wait a few minutes and try again.
I use NVivo through Omnissa, where are my files?
In Programkiosk you only have access to selected file locations. Read more about how to add more file locations here:
I use the Program kiosk in the browser, where are my files?
You must grant Programkiosken access to files on your computer. Click Settings and scroll down to Enable Folder Sharing.

How do I import Excel files?
Excel files and datasets must be imported as Survey. These file types cannot be edited in NVivo after they are imported, so check the file and remove any unnecessary information before importing.
Can I transcribe in NVivo?
NVivo has a separate transcription module, but it is an add-on service that, for security reasons, is not included in UiO's agreement. You can use Autotekst from UiO to create a text file you can import into NVivo. It can be used on sensitive data.
You can also transcribe yourself in a standard text editor such as Word and import the Word files into NVivo when transcription is complete. You can also transcribe manually in a Memo in NVivo.
Norwegian characters appear incorrect (?? ?? ??) in imported files
This is caused by the file encoding of .txt files. Try changing from UTF-8 to UTF-8 with BOM and upload the file again in NVivo. You can also avoid the problem by using Word instead of txt files.
I have a folder of files but don't see it when importing
Check whether it is a compressed folder (.zip). If so, you must extract it first; open the folder and choose Extract all. Then you will have a normal folder copy that can be opened and imported into NVivo.
