Course preparation

There is limited time to help with setup during the course, so if you have any trouble installing or importing please contact us ahead of time on nvivo-guru@ub.uio.no

Installation

You can download NVivo to your computer or use it through UiO’s Program Kiosk in Omnissa.

See our help pages for more information on how to install NVivo (or Omnissa) on your computer:

Prepare files to import to NVivo

You can use your own files in the course, but if you don't have any you can download these example files:

Download example files (zip)

This zip file consists of a folder (president project), containing four sub folders (president inaugurals, president interviews, president first lady interviews, journal articles). Prior to the course, you need to make sure you can import the files you will work with to NVivo. Any zip file needs to be extracted (unpacked) before files from it can be imported to NVivo.

Place the files you wish to work with in an area from which you can import to NVivo. If you are working with NVivo through the Omnissa client, you need to set up access to your local files in Omnissa. Otherwise your UiO home area (M: drive) is the default for file import to all applications run in Omnissa.
See our help pages on files and import in Program Kiosk.

Test that it works

Test that you can open NVivo for Windows (either as a downloaded NVivo app if you have a PC or through Omnissa if you have a Mac) and create a New Project. In Project title you must enter a title for your project, and in File name you must check that the project file is?saved in a recommended area. Click next and accept the default settings in the next window by clicking Create Project. An optional quick tour pops up before your project file opens.

Then click Import and check that you can import files to code.?
