Recent versions of NetworkManager supports wired IEEE802.1X authentication. This is an example with Ubuntu 8.10.. Minimize all windows, and left click on the icon with two monitors in the upper right corner of the screen.
Then choose "Edit connections"
Select eth0 (unless you're connected with some other network adapter) and press "edit"
Click on the tab "802.1x Security"
Choose a name for the profile, i.e. "studby"
Select the following options:
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
Peap Version: Version 0
Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2
Insert your username and password.
Press OK when you're done.
Verify that the network adapter is configured using DHCP:
Trykk "OK", then "close".
Ikonet med de to svarte skjermene vil n? bli byttet ut med et animert ikon med to prikker som blinker gr?nt, samt en sirkelbevegelse.
The icon with the two black computer monitors will now adapt into an animated icon with the green blinking dots and a circular movement.
If you are prompted to enter your username and password then it is a good indicator that you entered something incorrectly on the first attempt.
You can verify that the network connection is created by right-clicking on Network Manager icon and select "Connection Information".
The IP address should start with 193.157, and name servers should be 129.240.2.40 and 129.240.2.3 as illustrated in the picture.
