Advice and ideas for video recording
Lights
- Regular daylight is normally enough to make good recordings. If the sun is bright, try to find a place in the shadow.
- Avoid lights coming from the back. At night, you will need extra lights.
- Evenly distributed lights are preferable, and so is having a little more light on your face than the rest of the room.
- You should also avoid standing straight under a chandelier or equivalent.
Background and cut
- Chose a background that does not take attention from yourself.
- The cut of the picture should be from the chest to over your head.
- Adjust the angle of the camera by bending the screen so that your whole head is showing.
- It is nice to have some air over the head too.
Sound quality
- Use headphones or earplugs with a microphone
- Test various ones (if you have) to find out which has the best sound quality
- Avoid background noise such as radio or your laundry machine
The recording
- To keep the students’ attention we recommend splitting recordings into smaller parts with a maximum length of 10 minutes.
- Have a manuscript and be well prepared.
- Start the recording by saying what context this video is made in/for.
- Be aware of where you store the recording as it takes up much space.
