Use of Horizon View Help Desk

With Help Desk, as local IT you can perform very simple user support for VDIs.

You can check which VDIs a user has access to, as well as disconnect sessions, restart, and log off machines, and view simple statistics for certain operating systems.

Access

Local IT with drift users in the group it-usit-rsaas-power-users have login access to Help Desk.

If you are lacking access you can contact vdi-drift@usit.uio.no.

Use and Logging On

  1. Log on to your faculty/department's terminal system for local IT
  2. Open a web browser and go to the Help Desk instance
  3. Log in with your drift user
  4. Look up the user do wish to assist - name, username and email work to a certain extent
  5. You now have access to further information about a users access to VDI and any active sessions

Functionality

Information

  • You can find out which desktop / virtual machines a user has access to
  • You can also find out which Remote Desktop Services applications a user has access to
  • For an active session you can see
    • Information about client, client OS, client version, protocol, etc.
    • Virtual Machine Name, Horizon Agent Version, Duration, Session Status, Login Time
    • Proxy (UAG) and Load Balancer Information - Useful for troubleshooting
  • Detailed information about the virtual machine includes
    • CPU and memory usage
    • List of processes which are running
    • List of open applications

Actions

  • Send info, warning and error messages to the active session
  • Disconnect an active session
  • Log off from the virtual machine
  • Remote Assistance (only Windows to Windows)
  • Possible to kill processes

Test environment

There is also a Help Desk instance available for the test environment, if you have users there.  Note that this also only functions from lkit-ts and the like.
