Two new Hydrogen Centres officially opened

HYDROGENi and HyValue officially launched their activities at a kick-off event in Oslo on October 5th. They are both new centres for environment-friendly energy research (FME) which will help strengthen Norway's research efforts on hydrogen and ammonia over the next eight years. UiO is a key partner in FME HYDROGENi.

The HYDROGENi Centre is coordinated by SINTEF, with University of Oslo as a central research partner. UiO's activities will include researchers from the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, the Institute for Technology Systems and the Nordic Institute for Maritime Law.

The research centre's work to build a sustainable hydrogen economy will focus on four main research areas:

  1. Cost-efficient and scalable production
  2. Transport and storage in Norway and Europe
  3. End-use technologies

  4. Safety and material integrity

In order to realise the full potential of hydrogen, there are numerous knowledge and technical gaps that need to be filled. As such, HYDROGENi’s activities are a collaborative effort involving more than 50 Norwegian and European partners from both research and industry that cover the entire H2 value chain. In addition, HYDROGENi will have the largest ever academic research programme in an FME centre, as it aims to educate 35 PhDs/postdocs and over 100 MSc candidates.

The Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology has just announced three PhD positions in materials chemistry related to hydrogen technology. These PhDs at UiO are funded through HYDROGENi, and they will work closely with other partners in this hydrogen centre. See the advertisement for detailed information about the positions (application deadline is November 7th).
