The NorMIC series of workshops aims to teach biological researchers (PhD students, engineers, postdocs and young PIs) the principles of biological microscopes and image processing.

Department seminar. The title of the seminar: "Wage formation, wage leadership and inflation in Norway." Professor Steinar Holden, Assistant Professor Martin Blomhoff Holm and Professor Marcus Hagedorn, University of Oslo, will each give a presentation on this current topic. The presentations will be followed by an open discussion.

In this final seminar, Tommas M?l?y will present the draft of his PhD thesis, which traces the sequencing of the cod¡¯s genome and the virtual lab-space in which genomes are digitally reconstructed and analyzed.

In the fourth and last Welcome to the Anthropocene lecture, Dr. Stephanie Roe, a WWF¡¯s Global Climate & Energy Lead Scientist, will discuss the technical, economic, political, and social approaches for mitigating climate change and other key challenges of the Anthropocene.

Cand.med Nora Cecilie Maria Botten at Institute of Clinical Medicine will be defending the thesis ¡°Specialized Pro-resolving Lipid Mediators Resolvin D1, Resolvin D2 and Resolvin E1 in the Maintenance of Ocular Surface Homeostasis and in Prevention of Ocular Surface Inflammatory Disease¡± for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Dr. Julien Gagneur, Professor in Computational Molecular Medicine at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, will present his research on "Detecting and predicting aberrant splicing in human and Species-aware DNA language modeling."

This talk by Alessandro Iandolo examines the USSR's involvement in West Africa during the 1950s and 1960s as aid donor, trade partner, and political inspiration for the first post-independence governments in Ghana, Guinea, and Mali. 

Department seminar. John Van Reenen is Ronald Coase School Professor at the London School of Economics and Digital Fellow, Initiative for the Digital Economy at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT). He will present the paper: "Ray of Hope? China and the Rise of Solar Energy".

MSc Gugsa Nemera Germossa at Institute of Health and Society will be defending the thesis ¡°Re-organising in-hospital Pain Management: Evaluation of a Novel Nurse-Based Pain Management Programme in an Ethiopian University Medical Centre¡± for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

M.Sc. Ann Louise Lie at Institute of Health and Society will be defending the thesis ¡°Unpacking the politics of global public-private partnerships in global nutrition governance: Understanding the influence of the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement (SUN)¡± for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

In this talk, professor of philosophy, Alejandra Mancilla, asks who should be the political representatives in a place with no human inhabitants, namely, Antarctica. While the Antarctic Treaty has been celebrated as a successful legal instrument for the protection of the continent, some have criticized its elitist nature and demanded a more democratic system of governance. But, should only humans be part of this arrangement? Why not penguins and maybe icebergs too?

Master Jorunn Sofie Randby at Institute of Basic Medical Sciences will be defending the thesis ¡°Promoting public health through implementation of school meal guidelines in Norway: Adherence monitoring, practice determinants and implementation strategies¡± for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

The workshop is part of the project ¡°Rethinking the Soviet experiment: Ukrainian and Russian perspectives¡± (RSE) which brings together scholars of 20^th c. Soviet culture and society who had to flee the ongoing war in Ukraine and its catastrophic aftermath. RSE is being organized as a cooperation between the University of Oslo, the Humboldt University in Berlin, and the University of Belgrade and aims to provide opportunities of networking and intellectual exchange for Ukrainian, Russian, and Ukrainian-Russian scholars who are currently based in Europe.
