As part of the preparations for this year's local negotiations, employees may ask for a salary assessment interview. Academic staff contact Kristin, administrative staff Inger-Johanne.
Staff seminars
During the staff meeting on 21 May, we discussed how to improve the completion rate in TIK's two master programs, how to accommodate for a disciplinary heterogenous student group, the pros and cons of the ESST-master, and exchanged experiences from teaching an supervision. Two former TIK master students, Thea and Vilde, also shared interesting reflections about being supervised. The results from the discussions will be included in TIK's new Starting kit for new teachers.
The dates for this autumn's staff meetings are already set. Everyone is encouraged to save the dates 26 August, 21 October and 2 December, and to come with suggestions for the agenda to Inger-Johanne or Kristin.
Outreach
On 8 May, Ana organized the event “Growing Mycelium” in collaboration with the Waag Society in Amsterdam. She had support from Anna-Katharina, Rakesh and other young researchers from the FUNGATERIA-team. The event was designed for thirty, but forty participants showed up! The purpose of the event was to open models and modelling practices for microbial growth as they are used in the context of the bioeconomy to public discussion. To further explore microbial metabolisms, the participants were invited to inoculate mycelium, take it home with them, and do fungal ethnography for a month. A second event will follow 5 June that includes gaming, speculation and science fiction narrative writing.
If you are interested in developing an event idea for Domus Bibliotheca, UiO's own arena for dialogue and dissemination, please get in touch with Lara, or Gro from the communications department.
Publication
Hanne has a new publication in BioSocieties: "Constructing precision through a network of alignments: exploring modelling work in mice for precision vaccinology"
Kjersti and Susanne just published in Big Data & Society: "Data infrastructures, international organizations, and the politics of amendment"
If you have a new publication, please register it in Cristin!
No new publishing agreement with Wiley
The negotiations between UiO and Wiley for a new publisher agreement for 2025 have not come to a conclusion. This means that any manuscripts submitted to one of Wiley's gold journals from 1 June onward will not have their APC covered by the University Library. UiO also recommends that no individual subscriptions are made at the units/departments for the time being.
What happens to submitted articles when UiO does not have an agreement for 2025?
The cost for open access publishing (APC) will not be covered by an agreement. In this situation, UiO recommends that you publish closed, often referred to as "subscription based."
To meet any open access requirements, you must upload the accepted manuscript version of the article to Cristin. The article will be covered by UiO's rights retention policy, which ensures that the accepted manuscript version can be made available with a CC license and without embargo in UiO's institutional repository. This way, open access requirements from organizations such as the Research Council and the EU are fulfilled through self-archiving in the institutional repository (green open access).
For more details, see Updated information about the non-agreement situation with Wiley.
