T?yen seminar

This semester's T?yen seminar for the ph.d. students took place 7-8 October. 8 candidates participated with Silje Tellmann, Sebastian Svenberg and Knut J?rgen Vie as opponents in addition to Tone who in the capacity of PhD responsible at TIK organized the seminar.

Upcoming events

As you already know, TIK is organizing The Eilert Sundt Lecture 2024 on 22 October 14.15-16.00. Do not miss this!

Professor Timothy Mitchell (Columbia University): Oil, climate crisis, and the alibi of growth

We are also so lucky that Timothy Mitchell will give a workshop 23 October 10.15-12.45: Exploring Energy-Democracy Connections .

Do not hesitate in signing up - seniors as well as juniors! Submit a memo (max. 1 p.) by Friday 18 October at 16.00 (extended deadline) describing your ongoing project, current research questions and a few questions you would like to discuss at the workshop to Kristin or Inger-Johanne.

6 November 14.15-15.30 Knut J?rgen is invited to the Science Studies Colloquium Series. His talk "Denial and forgetfulness: The history and social practices of research ethics" is related to his work in OSIRIS. His own presentation of the talk:

"Researchers tend to think about themselves as part of a self-correcting community. However, the history of research ethics shows that we have for the most part reacted with denial and forgetfulness when faced with examples to the contrary, and it has fallen on politicians to correct us. In the talk, I will use this history to show that we need to treat research as a social phenomenon, with all too human participants, when working to ensure our trustworthiness."

7 November 18.00-19.30 the TIK PhD students continue the events to mark the TIK25 jubilee. This time Torjus and Tanja in cooperation with the DIGIT research school organize a panel conversation at the Litteraturhus: "Samfunnet som digital pr?vekanin". Participants are among others Lars Nyre (UiB), Malcolm Langford (UiO), Suhas Govind Joshi (UiO), Lilly P. Muller (guest researcher at TIK) and Torjus (TIK).
