Susanne Bauer has been awarded a residency as visiting scholar at the Brocher Foundation in Hermance/Geneva for September 2024, to develop an article on data genealogies and infrastructures in nuclear epidemiology. Home - Brocher (fondation-brocher.ch)

TIK has been invited to participate in the application for the AI Centre initiative TRUST, chaired by professor Morten D?hlen, Department of Informatics. Permanent TIK staff across Innovation studies and STS are involved in the process. This week Kristin Asdal, Ana Delgado and Tone Druglitr? participated in a large two day meeting as part of the application process.

Marie Stilling will leave for a month's research stay this Saturday 14 September. She will be at the Department of Science and Technology Studies at the University of Vienna. Department of Science and Technology Studies (univie.ac.at)

Diana Morales will stay in Belfast for two weeks in September as part of an ongoing research project aimed at understanding what is and how to achieve inclusive innovation in diverse global settings. She will be conducting interviews and a workshop with different actors from the public sector, academia, industry and civil society together with colleagues from Newcastle university (UK) and Pittsburgh University (USA), and with the support of colleagues at Queens University Belfast.

On 9 September we marked the end of Hilde Nykamp's post doctor period at TIK. Taran and Kristin thanked in their speeches Hilde for being an extraordinary positive academic and colleague. Dr Lilly Pijnenburg Muller joins us as a visiting research fellow from King’s College London after having worked as a postdoctoral fellow the Science and Technology Studies department at Cornell University as a Fulbright scholar. She is an interdisciplinary researcher in critical security studies and science and technology studies with interests in technology, the politics of (in)security and power. She has been contributing to a new research agenda of critical cybersecurity and on science and technology studies and critical security studies. Currently, she is working on her first monograph on cybersecurity as a sociotechnical security practice and imaginaries of AI. She holds a PhD in war Studies from Kings’ College London. Muller has also worked as a research fellow at NUPI and Oxford University. Honorary Doctor Marion Fourcade

Monday 2 September Professor Marion Fourcade was created Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Oslo's anniversary ceremony in the University Aula. At TIK her visit was marked by a rewarding workshop for younger researchers on Valuations, economy and the digital and her lecture Political economy of the digital society for a full auditorium in the afternoon.

Just after her visit at TIK, she had this article published in the Economist: Large language models will upend human rituals (economist.com)

Football cup

Four matches were played and the students were the stronger ones; the first year students' team won with the staff on the fourth place. Well done to the students - better luck next year, staff! 

Within the "trening i arbeidstiden", UiO lists Futsal, Ballspill - Bedriftsidrettslaget ved UiO for those interested.

TIK Board

The first board meeting this semester will take place on 25 September. The board will be informed about the evaluation of the master programmes as well as the steps taken to develop the teaching portfolio at TIK. The question of how to develop the teaching portfolio is at the moment under scrutiny at the whole of UiO: Utvikling av studietilbudet .

The agenda to the meeting will be published next week at M?teplan 2024 . The staff will also get a copy of the agenda when sent to the board.
