People news
Congratulations to Ana, who will soon start working as an editor of Science & Technology Studies, which is the official journal of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) and the Finnish Association for Science and Technology Studies.
S&TS has an editorial team that collaborates in a flat organisational structure, coordinated by Antti Silvast (Technical University of Denmark). The team uses open software for editorial work. S&TS is an Open Access Journal which does not charge Author Processing Charges (APCs), meaning that fellows who work in institutions that cannot afford Open Access can also publish in this journal. S&TS is published with support from a grant from the Academy of Finland, subscription fees and a fee from European Association for Science and Technology Studies (EASST).

A year of study coordination at TIK
Petter has made a calendar for the essential deadlines and activities within the study field: Important dates in the study field - For ansatte - Universitetet i Oslo (uio.no) . Deadlines in bold are particularly relevant for teachers on TIK's master programmes. You will receive reminders about them from Petter, but feel free to mark the most relevant in you calendars now!
Cake and party
Friday 17 February at 10.00 in the kitchen lounge we mark a 40 year anniversary before the Faculty party for Eilert Sundt building's celebrating a 60 year anniversary.
The party is open to all employees. You can attend even if you haven't signed up before the deadline 1 February, but those who sign up get two tickets to use in the bar.
There will be a quiz about TIK on the 10th floor at 17.00-18.00: Join in and test your knowledge with staff at the other departments!
Office news Eilert Sundt's building
A number of boxes have found their way to our floor lately. They have until now been stored in the basement. Our efficient moving assistants Kristian and Maria are working on finding room for things or throwing away. For this we have a large "restavfall" container in the printer room for some time - feel free to use it if you need to dispose of non paper. In a few week's time it will be removed and we will only have access to the smaller bins in the kitchen area (except for paper).
The two rooms 1020 and 1030 are reserved for research assistants. Books belonging to TIK have been put on the shelves there - feel free to visit and borrow.
The meeting rooms now give a feeling of storm at sea in contrast to our more calm Scandinavian vibe elsewhere. There might be different opinions about the change, but as the meeting rooms do not belong to TIK but are common resources, they will stay this way unless further notice from the faculty.
Part of the renovation work was restauration of the original 1964 windows. This information sheet explains how to open and close them - and that they normally should stay closed.
NFR/RCN changes in application procedures
The Research Council has introduced changes in order to reduce the number of applications and the resources used on applications. For the FRIPRO programme two main measures are introduced:
- The yearly application deadline is replaced by running treatment of applications and 1 year mandatory pause between each application.
- Quarantine between 1-2 year for resending applications depending on evaluation.
