Dean Hanne Flinstad Harbo talks about the important collaboration the faculty has with the health deans at the BOTT universities and with other health deans in The Guild. Good collaboration in all forms, both internally and externally, is an important prerequisite for research and education at the faculty.

UiO should and can increase the number of medical studies places 

At Klinmed¡¯s annual management meeting, discussions took place on how we can educate more medical students at UiO. In order to succeed, a common understanding of this and good sectoral cooperation is required.

• UiO: As usual, the university will be celebrating pride. Don¡¯t miss Pride at UiO. On Saturday 29 June, UiO will participate in the Oslo Pride Parade with the slogan ¡®Fearless Knowledge¡¯ alongside OsloMet. Dress according to the weather. UiO will be handing out t-shirts to those who want to join in. Please register so we can organise enough t-shirts. T-shirts can also be picked up at Lucy Smith¡¯s house. 

• UiO Growth House: Innovation conference Science Impact 2024 ¨C don¡¯t miss it on 25 September. Spend a day listening to exciting research, and explore opportunities and build networks.

• MED: Arendalsuka 2024 will be held from 12 to 16 August: MED Faculty at Arendalsuka. Anything that interests you? Please join us!

• Helsam: Feature article by Johanne Sundby in Uniforum: Writing about exclusion in Norwegian. The telling of stories about lives that were previously invisible, full of taboos and filled with shame is now being carried forward by people who themselves live in their otherness.  It also creates academic insight.

• Helsam: Anna Stavdal has been appointed Honorary Doctor at the University of Oulo in Finland. Congratulations! Read more about the Honorary Doctor appointment here.

  ?    UiO IT: For over a year, the IT department has been working on ensuring that all laptops use the same operating system. Thousands of PCs have received the new system, and all new laptops are already part of the new setup, which makes using a new computer much easier.

• UiO IT: IT-avdelingen har i over et ?r jobbet med ? sikre at alle b?rbare PCer er p? samme driftssystem. Tusenvis av PCer er overf?rt til det nye systemet, og alle nye b?rbare PCer som leveres, er allerede med i det nye opplegget, som blant annet gj?r det mye enklere ? ta i bruk en ny maskin.

• NSSF: Implementation of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) at Innlandet Hospital Trust (in Norwegian). How to build a strong academic community for DBT and establish it throughout the entire organisation?

• NSSF: Skills development in AMK and the out-of-hours medical service (in Norwegian). Through a new e-learning programme, employees working at the out-of-hours medical service and the Emergency Services (AMK) can increase their skills in suicide risk assessment and prevention.

• UB: The University Library has just begun planning Digital Scholarship Days 2025 (January 6 ¨C 9, 2025). Mark the date in your diary, and feel free to provide input on things you would like to see on the programme. Here is this year¡¯s programme.

• UiO: Join "sykkelaksjonen". 

• IMB: You can track the status of the construction works for the new University Hospital on IMB¡¯s web page for information from the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency. 

• UiO: Discounts on theatre performances for UiO employees. Discounted tickets are currently available for three wonderful performances. Free tickets to the rehearsal of Garborg¡¯s classic ¡®Haugtussa¡¯ on 14 June.

Management meetings

• Lederforum: Overview of meeting dates. The next meeting is on Tuesday 3 September. Agenda items and documents must be submitted by 12:00 on the last Thursday before the meeting. Minutes of the previous meeting can be found here.
• Overview of faculty board meetings and IDF meetings in 2024 (PDF) with deadlines for submitting cases. The next faculty board meeting will be held on 18 June. Agendas and protocols will be updated here.

• Apply for a qualification grant for female associate professors. Deadline: 13 June.

• UiO Growth House: Entrepreneurship in the health service: Apply for admission to the School of Health Innovation course 2 in autumn 2024. Deadline: 14 June. 

• Have you made an extraordinary contribution to the field of education at the University of Oslo? If so, you should apply to become a Distinguished Educator at UiO. Deadline: 1 September.

Overview: Upcoming public defences

• 18 - 20 August: the Nordoc Summer School at the University of Helsinki. The Nordic PhD summer camp aims to bring together researchers from all health science fields under one roof. Come along and gain an insight into the experiences of your Nordic colleagues and present what you are working on too! Registration is open until 14 June 2024. See the preliminary programme here.

NSSF: Therapists must challenge their own behaviour (in Norwegian). Professor of psychology Michaela Swales advises therapists to address their own thoughts and feelings that may hinder effective therapy.

 

Helsam: GPs registered fewer long consultations after research experiment (in Norwegian). The savings for society can be significant, says Ole Kristian Aars, who conducted the study together with Geir Godag, Oddvar Kaarboe and Tron Anders Moger. 
  

NSSF: ¡°We need to build robust children¡±  (in Norwegian). Psychologist and researcher Kim Stene-Larsen believes that we should be better at identifying children who are at risk of developing mental health problems. He believes that both parental follow-up and the school programmes can have a big impact.
