Guest post: SUSTAINIT – research and education for sustainable health
Professor Eivind Engebretsen is the head of SUSTAINIT, which has now been operational for just over a year. He says that the unit’s task is to contribute to research and education that promote sustainable health. The three centres at the unit - the Centre for Pandemic and One-Health Research, the Centre for Global Health and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare Education each contribute in their own way to the testing of new models for sustainable health through their areas of focus.

News from MED
New management at the Centre for Pandemic and One-Health Research (P1H)
Jens Petter Berg led P1H through the start-up phase as interim manager. Gunnveig Gr?deland is now taking over as the new manager. Berg will continue to support P1H, as well as the Centre for Global Health and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare Education (SHE), in his new role as Research and Development Manager for SUSTAINIT. Andersen and Omland are new members of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters
Jan Terje Andersen and Torbj?rn Omland have been elected as new members of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The membership is recognition of their scientific work. Read the full article on the institute website in Norwegian.
Casado receives the Professor Kreyberg Award
Raquel Bartolomé Casado received the Professor Kreyberg Award for her research on the adaptive immune system of the intestine. This is the second award she has received for her doctoral work.

In addition to repeating the success of the Medical Research Fair at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology, we will also participate in the Research Grand Prix this year. P1H: Preannouncement of a vaccine research seminar. Richard Hatchett, CEO of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, is visiting the University of Oslo in September to receive an honorary doctorate. To mark this occasion, P1H will organize a seminar on Norwegian vaccine research.

- 30 May: UiO:Life Science invites you to mark the end of the funding period for its second generation convergence environment. The leaders of the interdisciplinary research groups will present what they have achieved and exchange experiences about what it is like to be part of a convergence environment. Everyone is welcome! - 24 June – 28 June: Course in Machine Learning for Epidemiologic and Health Policy Analysis. Adapting machine learning to Norwegian health data to enhance causal analyses of patient pathways and patients’outcome. Register by April 15.

Medisinbloggen: Tuberculosis is still a threat to global health in Norwegian by Tahira Riaz. Tuberculosis, which many see as a disease of the past, still takes many lives. In 2022, over a million people died from the disease. Increasing antibiotic resistance complicates treatment.
Helsam/ P1H: The centre’s first internal research project, “A Digital Twin for Vaccination Strategies at Geographic Scales", starts this spring. The aim is to develop a digital twin model to improve our ability to predict infection patterns at different levels of vaccine efficacy against current and future viruses.
IMB: Advanced infrastructure will revolutionise brain research. The European research infrastructure EBRAINS enables brain scientists to share, find and use data in new ways, and much more efficiently than before.
Klinmed/ NSSF: – Who they have lost can affect a person’s emotions afterwards. While many parents struggle with self-reproach, partners may more often experience anger towards the person who has committed suicide, according to the experiences of grief therapist Hege Sandanger and her colleagues.
