Happy Advent season!

Dean Hanne Flinstad Harbo reflects on the final stretch of the semester, this year in the faculty leadership, and wishes everyone a joyous Advent season.

Dear Colleagues,

On all fronts, we are now working on the final stretch of the semester and the year. For us in the faculty leadership, there are also many projects being summarised and various matters being addressed. Here are a few highlights.

Racism must not occur

Last week, a survey was sent to our students regarding the student environment here. The survey also includes questions about racism. You may have seen articles in various media from some of our talented students on this topic. The faculty leadership takes all concerns very seriously. Racism must not occur at our faculty! The deans of studies have written about our aim to educate an anti-racist generation of doctors here in Norwegian: UiO ?nsker ? utdanne en antirasistisk generasjon med leger.

Continued focus on finance

In the autumn dialogue meetings with our institutes and units, the goal of achieving financial balance in our budgets has been a major focus. At the Institute of Health and Society, several general meetings have been held to discuss potential measures. Both academic and administrative staff are working diligently on this. Thank you to everyone contributing to this effort, which will lead to positive results.

Farewell to exchange students from Gaza

On Monday, 18 November, the faculty held a public meeting in Domus Bibliotheca about rebuilding health services and educational institutions in Gaza once the war is over (see photos below). Presentations were given by our students, Professor Emeritus Erik Fosse, State Secretary Usman Mushtaq, and Vice-Rector Per Morten Sandset.

There was consensus that the rebuilding must be done in close collaboration with the local population and authorities, and that it is important to start this work now. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the brave and courageous medical students who visited us and wish them all the best as they continue their medical education.

Happy Advent season

Happy Advent Season We are soon entering the first weekend of Advent. Take some time to attend the the Advent concert and Christmas tree lighting at Univeritetsplassen. This is a Christmas tradition that, since 1919, has brought together Oslo's residents, the mayor, and the Salvation Army for a public celebration, right in the heart of our university. Happy Advent season!
