FRIPRO: New opportunities

Research Dean Jan Bj?lie informs that UiO:Life Science has introduced a new and attractive incentive scheme to help you with your FRIPRO application. Since the Research Council began accepting applications on a rolling basis, MED has only received one allocation.

Dear colleagues,

In a previous leadership article, we took a closer look at the significant changes surrounding FRIPRO applications after the Research Council introduced a rolling application deadline.

This transition resulted in a dramatic decrease in the number of applications submitted. To remedy the situation, the faculty implemented measures earlier this year to encourage more applications. Now, changes are occurring in the FRIPRO landscape.

MED's allocations have been lacking

In September, the Research Council awarded NOK 211 million to 20 new FRIPRO projects.
Of these prestigious allocations, almost half went to projects at the University of Oslo.

This shows that UiO once again leads in free arenas where quality is the dominant criterion for awarding research funds. However, MED received only one allocation. There is room for improvement here.

New information from UiO:Life Sciences

There may be many reasons why the number of applications has decreased. With a rolling deadline, it is tempting to postpone submission. At the same time, the new embargo rules have introduced new complexities. Now it is more important than ever to put extra emphasis on FRIPRO applications.

UiO:Life Science has recently introduced a new and attractive incentive scheme that we recommend for those planning to apply for FRIPRO.

The first four applications that are not approved by the Research Council but score 6.0 or higher will receive support of up to NOK 200,000 for the further development of the project. The support can be used for positions, buyouts, and operations and must be utilised by the end of 2026.

Additionally, submission of an application will trigger an allocation of NOK 50,000 for the first 20 on a first-come, first-served basis. Updated information may be available, so keep an eye on the UiO:Life Science web pages.

Seize the opportunity and submit your FRIPRO application now!

We hope that this new scheme, which is a one-time announcement, will act as an incentive and that those of you who are almost ready with a FRIPRO application will take this new opportunity.

Best regards,

Jan
