The Norwegian Cancer Society’s Pink Ribbon campaign is donating 8 million krones each to the research groups of Philippe Collas and Jason Matthews at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences.

Are offshore petroelum workers on night shifts at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, and does exposure to the chemical benzene affect this risk? Scientists at IMB have received a grant of 2.55 million kroners from the Norwegian Health Association to carry out research on these questions.

In January 2025, Trygve B. Leergaard takes over as the new leader of the Department of Molecular Medicine, following Philippe Collas’ election as Head of Institute. With over 30 years’ seniority at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Leergaard brings versatile experience to the role.

Collas will be responsible for a larger number of medical students and for managing ever-increasing costs. Philippe Collas is looking forward to taking on the job of Head of Institute at IMB.

Professor Arnoldo Frigessi, leader of Integreat, was surprised and delighted when he was recently awarded the NORA Lifetime Achievement Award for his eminent academic contributions to research and for his supervision of innumerable students.
She has handled everything from the management of the collection of skeletal remains to the promotion of good teaching – Lene Frost Anderson has had quite a journey as Head of IMB.
