List of Small Funders and Calls

Below you will find a selection of agencies and calls which offer funding for events, networking, and other small projects.

The Faculty of Humanities maintains an up-to-date list of Calls for Funding. Many of the opportunities there may also be relevant for researchers outside the humanities.

Nordic Cooperation Funding

The Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic Council hosts a webpage where you can find all kinds of calls from the Nordic countries. Calls are thematically diverse, and funded by many different organizations. Calls from Nordisk Kulturfond and NordForsk can also be found here. Calls can be sorted by topic, country, time and organization. Find all Nordic Cooperation Calls here.

The Nordic Culture Fund / Nordisk Kulturfond

The Nordic Culture Fund supports innovative and dynamic artistic and cultural life in the Nordic Region. Many calls are directed mainly at artists, but some are knowledge-buidling and research-related. Find calls and information here.

Nordforsk

NordForsk seeks to enhance the quality, impact and efficiency of Nordic research cooperation. Calls are thematically diverse. Take note of NOS-HS, NOS-M and NOS-N – the Nordic research councils’ joint committees for Humanities & Social Sciences (NOS-HS), Medical science (NOS-M) and Natural Science (NOS-N).

Find all Nordforsk calls here.

Norwegian Arts Council

The main governmental operator for the implementation of Norwegian cultural policy. Fully financed by the Ministry of Culture. Publishes calls at different intervals. Projects are typically small in terms of budget and have relatively short timespans. Find calls.

DIKU - formerly SIU

Diku is Norway’s official agency for international programmes and measures related to education. Funding for knowledge-exchange programmes, Centres for Excellent Education etc. This is relevant for those at RITMO engaged in teaching activities. Find calls here.

COST Networking

The European COST organization funds networks with specific purposes and themes, called Actions. You may apply to create or join an Action, which will then fund your travels to/from network meetings. Your research adviser will notify you each year when new Actions are available for joining. Norway’s contact person for COST can help you get started: RCN’s Trude Dypvik tdy@forskningsradet.no.

Research Council Event Support

The RCN publishes a call for event support at the start of every year, which runs until all available funds are allocated. Events are typically conferences, workshops and seminars. Funding is available for both physical and virtual events, and they may take place in Norway or abroad. The amount available depends on which thematic area you apply to. You will find the call under Coordination and Support Activity.

Research Council - small funding

In addition to the large, annual calls described above, the RCN published several smaller calls for proposals throughout the year. This can be both Norwegian calls and collaborative calls with the research councils of other countries. Some calls are aimed at increasing Norwegian participation in EU projects. See a short description of the RCN call types and international call types, and search for relevant calls in the List of calls for proposals.
