The Ministry of Education and Research has adopted an amendment to the Regulations concerning terms and conditions of employment for the posts of post-doctoral research fellow, research fellow, research assistant and resident, effective from July 1st, 2023.
The amendment consists of the repeal of § 2-3 (5), removing the requirement that absences must be at least two consecutive weeks to qualify for an extension. The rationale for the amendment is that the requirement of two consecutive weeks may have been in violation of the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act.
From July 1st, research fellows and post-doctoral research fellows will have the right to extension for legally and collectively agreed upon absences from the first day of absence. This includes for example absence due to their own illness and the illness of their children.
UiO has been in dialogue with the Ministry of Education and Research regarding the impact of the change on legally and collectively agreed absences before July 1, 2023. UiO is evaluating the issue and will provide further information as soon as possible.
