Support for researchers affected by the war in Ukraine

After the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022 UiO received 16 researchers on short term hosting. There is now new funding available to extend the support to UiO units receiving Ukrainian researchers in 2024.

Temporary special scheme for Ukrainian researchers

Purpose

The purpose of the scheme is to provide Ukrainian researchers with the opportunity to continue their work in Norway while developing networks and identifying opportunities for future careers within or outside of academia.

Who can apply

Units at UiO with a contact person and one academic employee available to mentor the Ukrainian researcher.

Who they can apply for

Researchers who are Ukrainian citizens and/or covered by the Norwegian provisions on collective protection. There is a requirement for a completed doctoral degree. It can only be applied once for each researcher.

What can be covered

Hosting one or more Ukrainian researchers, for up to NOK 200,000 per researcher. The full amount available corresponds to approximately 3 months of an FTE, but there is some flexibility to how to best support the researcher. During the host period, the researcher can work on their own ongoing research, teach distance courses, participate in projects at UiO or apply for external funding, e.g. the EU’s Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA).
