PSI received 15 applications, of which seven were from female project leaders. Two independent panels consisting of two department heads evaluated each application. The impartiality of the panel members was assessed in advance. The panels have assessed the applications based on the criteria in the call; gender, age, inter-disciplinarity, time after PhD, diversity, description of ethical aspects and approvals, account of open research and further plans for external funding. The department management made an overall evaluation based on the assessments from all panels. Seven of the applicants are granted support:

Announcement:
- Individual researchers and research groups are welcome to apply. Collaboration across fields and sections is not required but may be an advantage. The strategic aim of supporting early career researchers will be considered as part of the assessment as well as increasing the diversity and proportion of women among the top professional positions.
- The proposal (max 3 pages) should briefly describe background, aims and methods, and how the funding will be used in 2021. The proposal should also describe relevant ethical issues and approvals. The proposal should briefly discuss how the project relates to relevant criteria for open science in research, and how the funding will be used to stimulate further external grant applications (e.g. the Norwegian and European research councils).
- Budget and references must be included in the proposal as part of the max 3 pages.
- Maximum grant amount per proposal is NOK 300 000.
- CV (max 2 pages) for the project leader and any key internal collaborators should be submitted together with the proposal. Each project leader can only submit one application.
