Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)

The Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) is EU’s funding programme for supporting researchers from all over the world, at all stages of their careers, with a focus on their training, skills, and career development. The program funds in particular doctoral education and postdoctoral training of researchers.

The two most common project types are Postdoctoral Fellowships and Doctoral Networks:

 

Incentives: MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

KD position

MSCA European Postdoctoral Fellowships last for up to two* years, while the postdoctoral positions in Norway are for a minimum of three years.

Successfully granted MSCA fellows of the European Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences as host institution will be offered an additional year funded by the MN Faculty (one year of a KD position), provided that they have applied for 24 months funding and can be employed in a postdoctoral fellowship position.

*2.5 years for those including a non-academic placement period.

Incentives: MSCA Doctoral Networks

KD position

An MN researcher who is successful in applying as the coordinator (project leader) of an MSCA Doctoral Network can receive one KD position.

Project Establishment Support (PES funding)

An MN researcher who is the coordinator of a MSCA Doctoral Network is eligible to apply for the MN PES funding to prepare the application on the same terms as other EU collaborative projects. You can see examples of activities that are supported by these funds and the guidelines for applying for them here:

Support: MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

Timeline

This timeline is aimed at MSCA Postdoctoral Fellows applicants and their supervisors.

Timing Proposal stage
December - April First contact between supervisor and candidate to discuss academic arrangements and further collaboration
As soon as possible

The supervisor informs the head of department/centre as well as the EU team that is planning to apply

March Information meeting for the potential supervisors (digital)
May - June

MSCA Master Class for candidates (digital)

June Individual meetings with applicants, their supervisors, and the EU team (digital or in person)
June - mid August

Read-through of applications for 1) those who apply again with further developed applications and 2) new applicants who have a draft application ready

All reviews must be arranged in advance

Feedback on application within two weeks (internal or external)

July - August

Register your application in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal (remember to add the EU Team)

August Joint Q&A sessions for candidates (digital)
September (1 week before application deadline) EU Funding & Tenders Portal formalia finalized
September (3-4 days before application deadline) Trial submission
September (application deadline) Final submission
