- Phase 1, areas 4-6, is planned to be ready in March.
- Phase 2, areas 7-8 and the eastern tower, is planned to be ready in June.
- Phase 3, areas 1-3 and the western tower, is planned to be ready in December.
This is the current plan, but there may be changes, delays, and adjustments that could impact the timetable.

Most of you will move in 2026, but some will relocate in 2027.
It is important to start decluttering and disposing of items now so that you know what you need and wish to take with you.
UiO needs to make the building operational and facilitate the move.
For UiO to utilise the building, phase 1 must be fully constructed and tested. Statsbygg must obtain temporary occupancy permits before the building can be opened for you.
The first to move in will be the operations team from the UiO Estate Department, who, along with Statsbygg's property management and the OUS operations team, will manage the building. Services such as access control, cleaning, waste disposal, and temporary goods reception need to be established.
Before you can move, the reception project must ensure necessary transport routes for all items being moved, and new furniture and scientific equipment must be set up, assembled, and installed.
Phase 1 starts in April-May
Phase 1, with area 4, 5 and 6, is set to start in April-May. Detailed planning is underway, and the goal is for each group to be allocated a time period for packing and a moving date. For many, it will be most convenient to begin as the semester comes to a close and the summer holiday season approaches.
In this stage, primarily areas for the Department of Chemistry, Department of Pharmacy, and the University Library will be ready, in addition to the new aquarium facility in field 6 for NCMBM.
Phase 2 begins at the end of June
Phase 2, with area 7 and 8, is set to open as planned by the end of June, with the remaining areas for the Department of Chemistry, Department of Pharmacy, NCMBM, and sections of the Department of Biosciences ready for occupation.
Moving during the summer may affect holiday schedules for some of you. However, it ensures that everyone is settled in before the semester fully begins in September.
Phase 3 is ready by the end of 2026
Phase 3, area 1, 2 and 3, will include a cafeteria and teaching areas, along with spaces for the Department of Biosciences, the Department of Oral Biology, and the Division of Laboratory Medicine (OUS), will not be completed until the very end of 2026.
UiO has requested renovations and modifications in certain areas that must be ready for relocation. This means that some teaching and environments may be relocated to the Life science building no earlier than the first half of 2027.
How are we organising the move?
The moving project at UiO is a sub-project under the reception project and is coordinated with Statsbygg's moving project. The moving agency assisting both UiO and Statsbygg is First Mover Group (FMG), which has extensive experience, including the relocation of the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science to ?s. The project leader for UiO is Kjetil Taaje.
Significant efforts have already been made to catalogue the scientific equipment that will be moved. The moving project will continue to develop a detailed inventory of everything that needs to be packed and included in the move. The use groups (IG-grupper) are involved in this work.
The use groups comprise members from the user environments that will be relocating to the new spaces. Use acceptance and move coordinators have also been appointed within these environments.

How can we move into a building still under construction?
For the first groups moving into the building, construction work will still be underway in other parts of the building. There must be secure access and stable operations in the areas of phase 1 while work continues and testing occurs in other areas.
Some critical functions, such as goods reception and operations control, will not be completed. Therefore, there will be some temporary solutions and routines for those of you moving in first. This means there may be some limitations and cumbersome arrangements until all stages are operational.
Could there be changes to the plans?
Yes, there may be changes and delays. By the start of autumn 2025, the work should be on schedule. Parts of the building are already completed, but much work remains in areas other than phase 1. Equipment needs to be delivered and installed, systems must be tested, and safety protocols must be in place before you can move in.
Challenges, unforeseen occurrences, faults, and difficulties with approvals and permissions may still arise. This could lead to delays and alterations in the timeline. Greater certainty about the plans will come during the autumn, and with each passing day, the chances of delay decrease.
