E-learning course in the protection of personal data at the Faculty of Humanities

The University of Oslo has developed an e-learning course in the protection of personal data for researchers at the University. The course is mandatory for all academic staff and for master’s degree students at HF.

Why do I need to take this course?

Process of personal data in a secure, reliable, and lawful manner

As an employee or student, you may have to process data relating to other people. There are several rules and procedures you need to be aware of when you do so. The aim of the course is for you to develop adequate knowledge relating to the protection of personal data so that you can process such data in a secure, reliable, and lawful manner.

In 2018, the EU introduced the new General Data Protection Regulation. The name of the regulation is abbreviated to GDPR and has been implemented in Norwegian law. As a result, we must keep the GDPR provisions in mind when processing information about other people.

The faculty has a duty

The faculty has a duty to safeguard the privacy of employees and students, as well as any data that students and employees collect and use in their research. To ensure that everyone is familiar with the laws and regulations, the course is mandatory for all Faculty of Humanities employees and master’s degree students.

About the course

The course  will provide a basic overview of the requirements that apply to researchers and students. The course will be delivered via Canvas and is available in both Norwegian and English. The course consists of both text and video and has been developed as four modules. You need to complete all modules, as well as the test at the end of the course. The course takes 2-3 hours to complete and concludes with case-based assignments.

Each faculty delivers a customised course with relevant examples and assignments adapted to the subject areas covered by the faculty.

When you have registered using the online form below, you will usually be granted automatic access to the course in Canvas within 30 minutes.
