About the performance
The production deals with identity, gazes, invisible power structures, harassment, and what it means to be a “new Sámi” in Sápmi — someone who still carries deep traces of the Norwegianization policy.
On stage we meet the new Sámi (Eirin Roseneng) on the night before Sámi National Day. She is rushing to finish sewing the perfect kofta (traditional Sámi coat), but something goes wrong and awakens powerful forces that take her on a journey. We encounter a range of different people — Sámi, southerners and relatives — all played by Karoline Garvang.
In an elegant way, the new Sámi becomes entangled in a tangle of living fabric, flying koftas and memories connected to Sámi life. Along the way she discovers a number of absurd, but also painful, facts about Sámi people.
7% Sámi is an important contribution to the current debate about who can call themselves Sámi.
With a healthy dose of humour, the audience is taken through a wide spectrum of emotions.
