Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach

In 1883 C?ciliaforeningen performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for the first time on Norwegian soil. They have continued the tradition ever since — one of Oslo’s oldest public Christmas customs.

C?ciliaforeningen will perform the Christmas Oratorio with the work’s rich colours in the alternating textures of grand choral movements, simple hymn melodies and splendid solo passages.

Normally the first three parts of Bach’s masterpiece are performed. This year C?ciliaforeningen lets Bach continue the Christmas Gospel with the account of the Three Wise Men, which is the theme of the fifth and sixth cantatas.
