The course is an introduction to important tools for handling information securely at the University of Oslo. The course aims to ensure that all faculty and staff receive basic training in privacy and IT security, thereby preventing privacy violations and breaches of information security.

About the course:?
This course is mandatory for all faculty and staff at UiO.
Faculty and staff at UiO are on the front line when it comes to protecting the university’s information assets against daily and increasingly sophisticated attack attempts. This course is tailored to provide you, one of our most valuable resources, with important tools to protect our research data and personal information.
The main goal of the course is to equip you with the essential tools to handle personal data in a secure and lawful manner, and how to protect our digital resources from malicious actors.
The basic course does not replace existing privacy course offerings at UiO. You should also take relevant advanced courses in privacy, depending on your role.?

The course was made mandatory for all faculty and staff by a decision from the university director on June 12, 2025 (ref. 2025/95793), based on the Ministry of Education’s allocation letter, which describes that it is expected that UiO "enhances its work to prevent, detect, and manage serious ICT security incidents and breaches of personal data security."
It can take up to 2 hours from when you register until you can log in to the course.
