Election Platform

Universities are the foremost custodians of knowledge and truth in society. We are now living in a time when truth is up for sale and can be distorted by those with power and money. Even in countries and societies we have traditionally admired, anti-academic forces and the rejection of scientific knowledge are becoming an almost existential threat. The trends we observe in other countries in this regard may soon manifest in Norway before we know it. Therefore, I believe it is time to unite and fight for academia and the university's free and independent role both at home and internationally. Furthermore, I feel it is essential to actively engage with the rapid technological developments we are currently witnessing, where AI is likely to fundamentally change academia within a few years. We are facing a period with significant risks, but also monumental opportunities for growth and innovation. I wish to contribute to ensuring that the University of Oslo is as well-prepared as possible for what lies ahead.

Why I am running for the board

I want to be a board representative for the permanent academic staff because I see the upcoming period as crucial for defending, developing, and promoting UiO as the country’s perhaps most important custodian of knowledge and truth within research and education. In a time when traditional academic values and the independence of research are under challenge, it is vital that UiO's role as a societal actor is preserved and developed. I want to be an active contributor to this mission. Furthermore, UiO must adopt the most proactive position possible in the face of societal developments that increasingly threaten the project of Western civilization and a technological evolution that will radically and unpredictably change science and education. If I am fortunate enough to be elected, I will do everything I can to ensure that UiO approaches the challenges and opportunities we face in the upcoming term as constructively as possible through its board work.

My key issues

  1. Defending, developing, and promoting UiO's role as the country’s perhaps foremost custodian of truth and knowledge in a time when academia and independent research are under pressure.
  2. Ensuring that UiO navigates the development of AI as wisely and proactively as possible, thus quickly taking on the role of one of the country’s leading custodians of the emerging paradigms of science and knowledge development, education, innovation, and communication.
  3. Working to make UiO a more significant actor concerning innovation, development, and the delivery of creative solutions to societal challenges, both now and in the near future, as well as in the long term.
