Joyce Carol Oates and Karin Haugen: The author as a witness

A conversation about a long life of authorship and the effectiveness of literature

Portrait of author Joyce Carl Oats with "Litteraturhuset i Universitetets aula" written in the top left corner

Joyce Carol Oates is one of the greatest living authors in the world right now and is often referred to as a favorite for the Nobel prize in literature. It is a huge event when Oates now will guest Litteraturhuset in the Aula and with that Norway for the first time.

Through over a hundred publications in most genres, the American nester continues to write tender and razor sharp about the big questions in society surrounding us.

The core in her authorship is, according to Oates herself, to ?be a witness? – to tell the stories of those who do not have anyone to speak for them. She writes about racism, misogyny, violence and social injustice with political and historical flair, combines with psychological insights and a pictorial literary precision.

When the legend of an author now guests Norway and Litteraturhuset for the first time, it is happening in the University Aula to secure that as many people as possible can attend the vent. Here she will meet journalist and author Karin Haugen for a conversation about a long life as an author and the effectiveness of literature.

The conversation will be in English.
